On April 3, 2024, Senegal experienced its fourth democratic transition, to the admiration of all. From now on, a new generation will preside over the nation's destiny. The power of the symbol, the hopes and the challenges inspired this text, which I'm delighted to share with you following the numerous reactions from friends and members of my network.
A new day dawns
Senegal undergoes its fourth changeover
Like youth reborn
Who lives out his dreams
Ndiaganio now on a map of the continent
By the power of the ballot box and the power of the divine
A son of this village watches over our destiny
The people of the depths recognize themselves in their president
Numerous grievances
There is a deep need to know
Gluttonous are the appetites for power
Enormous are the hopes
On the frail shoulders of its leader the country waits
Answers and, above all, action
Decisions to save the nation
Whose vibrant youth has no time left
And like a wise man I meditate in silence
How to reconcile law, justice and equity
How to restore dignity to work
And enable every citizen to keep hope alive
I would like the cry of the hungry to resound everywhere
To awaken hearts and minds
May solidarity in the sharing of abundance
Allow those who have everything to think of those who have nothing
Ancestral lands wrested on the strength of land titles
As the ultimate proof of ownership inherited from the colonizer
In defiance of Africa and its values
Be returned to communities in the name of history and truth
I watch helplessly as so-called spiritual guides
Diplomatic passports in hand
Crisscrossing capitals in search of tomorrow's alms
In exchange for a prayer to heaven
I hear the distress of grieving families
Whose sons, huddled in dugouts at the mercy of the waves
preferred to defy death and tongues
Rather than the futility of a life without opportunities
I see all these politicians without convictions
Who turn their coat for the sound of species
Whatever the project, as long as they get drunk
The power of money and the garments of the Nation
I sense despair and the instinct to survive
In outlying suburbs
When politicians in high places
Spend lavishly on ill-gotten gains
So I pray that those who have the power
And guide our way into the future
Never give in to their pleasure
And watch over the flame and hope of the local people
I pray for the courage of their decisions
I pray for their sense of fairness and tolerance
I pray for their foresight and relevance
I pray that integrity will be at the heart of their actions
May the North Star guide the shepherd and his people
May no one ever stray from the goal
And let nothing distract us from our faith
